Chris Hemsworth Announced Taking A break After the Alzheimer's Predispositions:
The Thor and Extraction star underwent a battery of genetic tests as he worked on National Geographic's Limitless, a new docuseries about fighting against the natural decline that comes with time and aging. He did this to see what, if anything, the future might have in store for him, etched into his very DNA. In the show, he describes what he learned as "my worst dread."
The suspicions were not only true but alarming, the APOE4 gene, which has been associated with an elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease, is in his genetic makeup—But not one but two parts of them, one from his mother and the other from his father. A 2021 study by the National Institutes of Health found that while one in four people carry the gene, just 2 to 3% of persons had both copies as posted by Vanity fair
Chris addresses as to what this entails for him and his future in episode five of Limitless. It may not be the conventional diagnosis of a disease and it certainly doesn’t mean that he will get it, nonetheless, it is still worrisome because the twofold occurrence of the gene puts him in a category of people who are significantly more likely to be affected than those of a single occurrence.
Chris Hemsworth told Vanity Fair that he will be taking time off to process the news and to spend some time with his kids and family, as Chris said “it’s not like I’ve been handed my resignation” but seeing it up close with his grandfather of what this disease can do is actually horrifying.
Chris remembered his experience with his Grandfather “I’m not sure he actually remembers much anymore and he slips in and out of Dutch, which is his original language,” . “He will be talking Dutch and English and then a mash-up and then maybe some other new words as well.” He further added, “It’s not a pre-deterministic gene, but it is a strong indication. Ten years ago, I think it was more thought of as determinant.” To confirm the chances are high of getting the disease but it still remains that “chances” and nothing more than that.
The following diagnosis may not have taken a toll on the actor but it definitely gave him a new outlook to look upon and to consider and align priorities. “The Limitless” has not only helped in the diagnosis and now but also met with some death doulas or (near-end supporters), all made it possible for the actor to confirm the decision of taking a break.
